Casa muro
Italy
The project for this 6-unit apartment building stems from the owner's desire to exploit the potential of the land already occupied by a building that urban regulations allow to densify by delimiting a building area 4.7m wide by 36m long.
The project meets the challenge of the limits imposed by municipal by-law. Because of limitations regarding the depth of the building, it offers houses on two floors. The houses located on the ground floor are offered a private access through a garden. Two openings in the built volume contain the shared staircases which give access to upper accommodations via a passageway. On the upper floors, the different apartments’ rooms extend outside into perforated steel balconies. Having the attributes of a loggia, these exterior extensions contribute to the perception of more spacious interior spaces while protecting their private aspect.
