Abitare la collina

Italy

Located on a hill on the edge of the Piedmontese alpine territory, this house benefits from a 360 ° view of a landscape opened on the mountain reliefs. The site is characterized by a "ciglioni" arrangement which creates false successive floors along the slope. The built volume has two opposite characters. The north-east and north-west facades are characterized by an introverted character accentuated by the use of concrete blocks. On the contrary, the south-east and south-west facades are marked by large openings that allow light to penetrate abundantly inside the house. The internal layout of the house exploits the contact with the ground. On the lower level is located the basement. A living room opens to the south in direct contact with the outside. The different levels of the house are connected through two shifted vertical voids.

The design idea takes advantage of the site's morphology by creating a volume that penetrates the hill and connects the first two levels of the house in continuity with the levels created by the anthropic disposal of the land. The result is a volume in close contact with the shape of the site crossed by a built element with a copper roof.
